Recycle
BY FEE-GLORIA GROENEMEYER
In collaboration with artist Eric Tobua, our story highlights environmental degradation and creative sustainability. Through images, everyday trash is repurposed, emphasising the extent of pollution and the beauty in recycling. These visuals aim to raise awareness about recycling and sustainability to protect our planet.
We hope to inspire people to rethink their relationship with waste and adopt practices that support a cleaner environment. One image features a mermaid with a tail crafted from ocean debris, spotlighting marine pollution. Another presents an ensemble made from discarded party trash, emphasising human excess. Outfits made from can lids explore the potential of repurposing industrial waste, while a dress and wings crafted from plastic draw attention to plastic pollution.
By reimagining waste as a resource, we can reduce environmental harm and move toward a more sustainable future. We only have one Earth to protect.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES & FEARS FOR THE CLIMATE CRISIS & COP29?
The world is becoming more and more divided, and focus seems to be shifting away from the climate crisis due to other conflicts taking the spotlight. Bringing back some of the focus on our environment and how humans impact it is essential to making a change. Urgency is needed when talking about our near future. I hope that through art, we can motivate people from around the world to act. My fear is that we are not doing enough fast enough to truly make a difference.
